Founded in 1892, the
Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania (GSP)
was among the first in the United States to
recognize the value of collecting and
preserving the vital and personal records of
ancestors whose lives now comprise the
history of this country. GSP has research
materials available to members through the
Genealogical Society Collection at the
society's headquarters and the Historical
Society of Pennsylvania (HSP). Included in
this collection are wills, census, tax
lists, church registers, family Bibles,
cemetery inscriptions, funeral records,
family papers and correspondence. Each year
the society, alone or in conjunction with
partnering organizations, offers lectures
for all levels of research. During the
summer the society's Summer Camp offers
genealogists the opportunity to visit
Philadelphia, where they can explore, over
the course of several days, the collections
of various societies and government agencies
in one of this country's most historic and
important cities.
As part of
fulfilling its mission, GSP instituted a
Partnership program with other organizations
having a genealogical constituency. GSP
believes the goals that are shared by
Pennsylvania's numerous genealogical and
historical societies can be more readily
achieved when everyone works in unison.
The PA Genealogy
Conference is co-hosted by GSP &
WPGS. Save on
